Little-known fact: “Cayucas” actually refers to the genre of music blaring out of our car’s radio speakers if our car were a 1954 Woody with longboards strapped on top.

We kid, of course. Cayucas is the name for the music of twins Zach and Ben Yudin, who drew the name from their Central Coast hometown of Cayucos. They’ve released two albums of bright indie-pop, 2013’s “Bigfoot” and 2015’s “Dancing at the Blue Lagoon,” both via Secretly Canadian, and now the brothers have matriculated to Park the Van Records for their third release. That as-yet-untitled release, produced by Grammy-winning Dennis Herring (Elvis Costello, Modest Mouse, Ra Ra Riot), is coming in early 2019, they say.

To whet appetites, Cayucas today released the single “Jessica WJ” (b/w “Skeleton Coast”). While both bounce like a buoy on choppy waves, the songs find the brothers employing some new nuances to add blush to their likably spindly sound. Think tasteful electronic additives and vocal effects, not to mention the carefree whistling on “Jessica WJ.” Yes, the whistling.
