Here’s a “play-’em-loud” trifecta of new songs, from Fashion Club, VEERS and Meg Myers …

FASHION CLUB, “Pantomime”

“Scrutiny,” the debut album from Pascal Stevenson’s solo project Fashion Club, is out June 17. Just like the previous single “Feign for Love,” the album’s lead track “Pantomime” is another deliciously darkwave tune with synths — and lyrics — that leave a mark. “It’s about different kinds of social performance, and how we weigh our needs against others,” says Stevenson, a member of L.A. post-punk trio Moaning. “A lot of people advocate for marginalized groups in their public lives but then don’t make any effort to look inward and address their own harmful behavior in their private lives.” Stevenson’s words are wilting: “How quickly your focus shifts / Two or three days and then you’re on with it.”

VEERS, “Wolf at the Door”

Sounding again like they just walked into some London arena in 1996, L.A. quartet VEERS — Andrew James, Nick Lanata, Spencer Schuck and Chris Neff — are back with the second single from their debut album “Universe Reversal,” out Sept. 16. Neff pounds like he’s being paid extra on this one, backbeating James vitriol: “You think you’re better than most and have for a long time / Why would you thik I’d get on my knees and let you walk all over me.” Says James: “This song really is about being the best you can be and trying to stand out in the crowd. … Being a musician today really feels like you’re a fish swimming upstream, and having people around you — sometimes even ‘friends’ — think you’re just unworthy to be on the same playing field, [well] fuck ’em. Go for what you want.” VEERS play Friday night at NextfestLA, the emerging artist showcase at the L.A. County Fair. They’re also at Gold-Diggers on July 14 (tickets).

MEG MYERS, Children of Light II”

Meg Myers’ “HTIS,” released in March, revealed the L.A. singer-songwriter’s more Brobdingnagian sound. (Full Metal Meg? Meta Meg?) “Children of Light II” is the second single from an album she has in the works for Sumerian Records, a smoldering anthem the songwriter says is “about alchemy.” She elaborates: “It was inspired by my awakening in 2018 when I began reconnecting with my spirit guides through meditation. It’s about facing our fears so we can become more of who we really are, which is multi-dimensional. It reminds us that we are spiritual beings having a temporary human experience and all the answers we seek can be found within.” Myers opens for My Chemical Romance on Oct. 14 at the Kia Forum.
