Today’s singles roundup goes all over the joint stylistically — hear new songs from Black Polish, Edgar Everyone, So Many Wizards and Tropa Magica

BLACK POLISH, “Willows”

Over plucked strings as soothing as a gentle breeze, 18-year-old Jayden Nicole Binnix — aka Black Polish — sings hopefully about the winds of attraction on the new single “Willows.” It’s the latest taste of the Maryland native’s debut album, “Forest (Monsters Live In The Trees),” out Jan. 26. “‘Willows’ was made as a false happy ending,” Binnix says. “It speaks of when you hope that this current person you’re obsessed with can finally pull you out of the darkness and everything that is wrong with you disappears.” Made with producer Alex Tirheimer (Bumbasee), the song follows singles such as “Streetsigns,” “Graves” and “Purple Skies.”

EDGAR EVERYONE & PRETTY PISTIL, “Align Me”

Frenchman Jules de Gasperis, the L.A.-based singer-songwriter, drummer and producer, debuted his electronic solo project Edgar Everyone back in 2019. He has big plans for 2024 (including taking his one-man act on a solo van tour of the U.S.), and he’s teamed up with Ashley Petti (aka Pretty Pistil) on the new single “Align Me.” The follow-up to singles such as the Polartropica collaboration “Ride or Die” and “Who’s the Dreamer,” “Align Me” is dream-disco for stargazers … or anybody who’s has a conversation with a celestial body. Pat Weinell collaborated with de Gasperis on the wild video.

SO MANY WIZARDS, “T M”

The “T M” here stands for transcendental meditation, something that So Many Wizards’ Nima Kazerouni practices regularly. “This song is an ode to the ups and downs of meditating. No matter what form,” he says. “Regardless of the method, there are hurdles as we’re all beautiful works in progress. Best listened while in local motion in a car, boat, skateboard, skis or on foot.” It’s the first release from So Many Wizards in a year and a half.

TROPA MAGICA, “Mild Sauce”

Brothers David and Rene Pacheco step away from their cumbia/grunge/psych-rock mixology for something that’s decidedly more chill. “Mild Sauce” is not weak sauce, though — witness David’s guitar licks — and the Pacheco brothers have more in store for ’24. “Perfect for sipping on cold one or sparking one up as we finish out the year,” Tropa Magica says. “Sonically we’re exploring some new territory with this one, but it’s not an indication of where we’re heading, simply a glimpse of a moment in time.”
