[A weekend special: Here are three local bands who have gotten the remix treatment.]
Saint Motel – “Puzzle Pieces (Junk Remix)” – Indie rock outfit Saint Motel gets a danceable but darker remix from Junk. Heavier beats warp the vocals and rhythm while also touching on the dark subject matter hidden in between those peppy keyboard riffs in the original (which we premiered here). Saint Motel plays the free outdoor Tarfest Music Festival today along with Everest, Obi Best, A House for Lions, Infantree and Ash Panda.
Fool’s Gold – “Wild Window (Superhumanoids Remix)” – Superhumanoids slow Fool’s Gold “Wild Window” down by highlighting Luke Top’s strong vocals in softer beats and lush strings. Dream-pop creeps up behind lyrics “No you have not ruined me yet” making them a gentle but firm declaration without the haste. Fool’s Gold plays Sept. 29 at the Troubadour with with Tijuana Panthers and Allah Las.
Pizza! – “Riding Through the Jungle (Kid Infinity Remix)” – Two eclectic bands converge as electronic band Kid Infinity (recommended for awesome light shows) remixes one of Pizza!’s latest tracks, “Riding Through the Jungle.” Pizza!’s Geoff Geis has always coupled his baritone with some synth undertones, but the band’s punk vibes get revamped and go into electro over-drive in this rendition.
