You ever find something beneath your couch cushions that you really, truly did not want to touch? That’s what befalls the protagonist, played by Nancy Maguire, in director Joseph Armario’s video for “Terror,” the title track from the forthcoming EP by Steady Holiday. The song, like most on Steady Holiday’s breakout 2016 LP “Under the Influence,” is a fragile, orchestrated thing of beauty, but as always Dre Babinski sings softly and carries a big message — here symbolized by the species-unspecific Creature From the Print Sofa, which, it turns out, refuses to die. The singer-songwriter embarked on her new debut in the malaise following the presidential election. “I wanted to make something that combined totally overt absurdity with the grooves of fear and xenophobia that have been deepening in our country,” she told The Fader, where the video premiered. Like the single, the EP’s second track “More Than One Way,” takes a dim view of the darkness pervading politics and culture. “There’s nothing very subtle about this one,” she told Consequence of Sound. “I’m upset with the amount of greed, self-righteousness, inhumanity, and objective misuse of power in America. It’s an evocative time.” “Terror,” which features contributions from Josh Adams (Jenny Lewis) and was produced by Gus Seyffert, is out April 7.
