Tonight in L.A.: Gomez, Local Natives, Lower Heaven

[Happy August. And happy birthday, Shirley Manson …]

The members of blues-pop provocateurs Gomez live all over the place these days, and for their sixth album, “A New Tide,” a lot of the songwriting was done online. Can’t do concerts that way, though – the quintet’s national tour behind its new album visits the Wiltern tonight. … This month’s free residencies virtually ensure I won’t have a Monday night off, and maybe you shouldn’t either: Local Natives kick off their stand at Spaceland, with the Union Line, the Outline and We Barbarians supporting; Lower Heaven plies its dreamy rock at the Silverlake Lounge, with Dissolver among the openers; and Long Beach’s the Growlers (who will be opening for Devendra Banhart later this month) take on the Echo. … And then there is Dawes. The quartet, newly signed to ATO and authors of one of the loveliest slices of Americana you’ll hear all year, has a Monday residency (with the Yelling) at the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa. No fear for L.A. audiences, though – they’re also doing a Wednesday night residency at the Echo. … And a couple nifty under-the-radar shows worth a mention: Eugene Edwards highlights the International Pop Overthrow bill at Molly Malone’s; and Band of Heathens plays the Mint.
