In the four singles released so far, Cuesta Loeb — the musical project of New York City native Christina Cuesta Loeb — balances billowing, ethereal vocals with dense, driving guitars, ushering the listener into a warm sonic cocoon. The sound throws back to dream-pop and shoegaze of the ’90s, and the like the best of those forebears Cuesta Loeb sacrifices nothing when it comes to melody, lyrical imagery and emotional heft.

The new single “Out Of,” arriving Friday, is especially heavy — it’s an homage to her father, the jazz guitarist Chuck Loeb, who died last July. As the insistent guitar punctuates her pleas, Loeb sings “Could you teach me how to climb into my mind / and make it right? / I’ll make the sacrifice into the skies / I’m running out of time.”

Says Loeb, who co-wrote the song (the follow-up to “Dive” released earlier this year) with Blake Straus: “This past year has been a nightmare, just so unsettling and has left me with so many unanswerable questions. This song is a conversation with my dad, trying to reconcile my feelings in the wake of his passing.”

The L.A.-based band, which now features Loeb’s sister Lizzy in the live lineup, is working on a full-length to release later in 2018.
