Their misspelling of “judgment” notwithstanding, Jamestown Revival’s new single “Crazy World (Judgement Day)” is just about everything a traditional folk song should be: topical, simple, earnest and driven by two-part harmonies.
It’s like listening to two friends talk things out — which is exactly the way the Texas-bred duo of Jonathan Clay and Zach Chance conceived the song. “Jonathan and I write from having a conversation or reflecting about things we’ve experienced,” Chance explains. “This is like if you were sitting at a bar with a friend and having a couple of drinks and another crazy event of the day comes across the news ticker and you’re like, ‘Man, this is a f—ing crazy place we live in.’ It’s that feeling a little down in the dumps as far as the state of affairs and what we as human beings are doing with ourselves now.”
The duo adds: “It’s not finger-pointing in any one direction, but a call to action for everyone one of us to reflect and consider our role in this current state of affairs.
The song is the first single from Jamestown Revival’s third album, “San Isabel,” arriving June 14. It’s the follow-up to “Utah” (2014) and “The Education of a Wandering Man” (2016).
