5 Picks for the Week

Wednesday: Ethan Gruska

It’s unclear how much singer-songwriter and ex-Belle Brigader Ethan Gruska will actually tour behind his new album “En Garde” — he’s much more of a studio guy these days. But Wednesday will see him reveal his experimental side when he visits the Echo. Tickets.

Wednesday: Moses Sumney

There’s one more chance to see pop auteur Moses Sumney for the low-low price of free. Sumney, who has released Part 1 of his double-LP “Grae” (the second part comes in May), finishes up his residency at the Bootleg Theater, where the auxiliary room is devoted to the artist’s installation. Info.

Friday: Wajatta, French Vanilla

Reggie Watts and John Tejada — aka Wajatta — released their second album last week. This week, you can find them hanging with the dioramas in the North American Mammal Hall at the Natural History Museum as they kick off this year’s First Fridays series. The nights, as always, include conversations and discussions, museum tours, late gallery hours, food trucks, KCRW DJs and more. L.A.’s French Vanilla and whistler extraordinaire Café Molly also perform. Tickets.

Friday/Saturday: Jonathan Wilson

Singer-songwriter Jonathan Wilson releases his “Nashville album,” titled “Dixie Blur,” on Friday. He celebrates with a pair of intimate shows at the Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Tickets: Friday; Saturday.

Saturday/Sunday: Thundercat

First, watch this video for “Dragonball Durag.” Then tip your cap to Thundercat, who will release his new album “It Is What It Is” on April 4. He has two SoCal shows this weekend building up to the release: Saturday at the Wiltern (tickets) and Sunday at the Observatory (tickets).
