L.A. duo Mannequin Online make lithe modern pop songs with a certain je ne sais quoi, working from a palette of New Wave, R&B and funk to create ear candy that takes a winking look at contemporary life.

The musicians behind the project are Zach DeGaetano, a member of the L.A. trio WILD, and Bridget Boltz, a session bassist and singer. They debuted with a pair of singles in 2019 (followed, of course, by remixes) and two more this year.

DeGaetano and Boltz were all ready to take the project out of the studio and onto stages when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, so they have yet to make their live debut.

But their debut EP will be out July 24, and today they unveil “I Want It,” a shout-along rocker that makes sarcasm a dance-floor fashion. “We wrote ‘I Want It’ to explore searching for identity in materialism and mass media,” the duo says. “We wanted to dress up topics such as greed and consumerism in a upbeat, high-energy track.”

If your tastes in pop rest with current artists such as Foster the People, Two Door Cinema Club or San Cisco, or if you’re up for something a little reminiscent of the Cars, you’ll want it.
