Isolation can be quite dreary, but according to Michi’s newest video for her song “Escondida,” it’s actually a chance to come full bloom.

Michi’s drop comes as part of the build-up to the release of her debut EP, “Sugarbaby,” out Oct. 16. “Escondida” falls in line with her ’70s-flavored pop, but trades the retro style of July’s title track for the haziness of February’s “Night Moves.”

“The value of solitude even outside these testing times of quarantine are what pushed me to bring ‘Escondida’ out of hiding,” says the artist, born Michelle Guerrero. “I’ve always leaned on the company of others to fill a void or distract myself, but it wasn’t until these last two years and the start of my project that I felt connected to being alone, even if with my thoughts, regrets, memories both good and bad.”

The animated video is the work of María Medem, who translates “Escondida,” Michi’s first song with Spanish lyrics, into a warm visualization that opens up the emotional journey of being confined to one’s bedroom.

“Escondida is my love song to the haven I’ve found in mentally and emotionally being alone.”
