Weekend viewing, in three very different courses: Check out new videos from Dylan Dunlap, BOYO and L.A. Witch …
DYLAN DUNLAP, “Follow My Echo”
Following last fall’s “What We Had” and December’s “Another Holiday,” the singer-songwriter-producer and mental health awareness advocate has released another single from his “Soldier On” EP, out Feb. 26 via Nettwerk. “Follow My Echo” is another polished confessional from Dunlap, who just turned 25, and Tim Toda shot the video.
BOYO, “Ghost Noise”
“Alone Together in Los Angeles,” the second BOYO album of 2020, arrived in December via Park the Van Records. Corey Watson is responsible for the animated video for “Ghost Noise,” which he says “is both inspired by and an homage to classic anime like Cowboy Bebop, Akira, Samurai Champloo, Fullmetal Alchemist and more. BOYO and I had been discussing making a series of anime videos with looping scenes inspired by different classic animes at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, but it never fully bloomed to fruition. This video is the result of all of those previous late-night ideas merged into one.”
L.A. WITCH, “Motorcycle Boy”
L.A. Witch’s sophomore album “Play With Fire,” which came out in August, is packed with goodies … like “Gen-Z,” “True Believers,” “I Wanna Lose” and “Fire Starter.” Now comes the video for “Motorcycle Boy,” which is a fun ride, too. “The song is inspired by Moto Boys like Mickey Rourke, Marlon Brando and Steve McQueen, so of course we took a lot of inspiration from our favorite biker movies like ‘The Wild One,’ ‘Rumble Fish,’ ‘On Any Sunday,’ ‘Easy Rider,’ ‘Hell’s Angels ’69’ and ‘The Girl on a Motorcycle,’” Sade Sanchez says. “I had worked with (director) Ambar Navarro and Max (Flick) on another project and loved their other work, so we wanted to work with them on this. They definitely did their homework and came up with a cool story line. I got to feature my bike that I’d been rebuilding during the pandemic. It was nice to shoot a video where you get to do two of your favorite things, riding motorcycles and play guitar.”
