CAPYAC

The pandemic has been most unkind to artists such as CAPYAC, the L.A.-via-Austin party animals whose prime currency is unhinged live shows.

Suffice to say when the clubs reopen, the disco-funk outfit piloted by the duo of Delwin Campbell (aka Potion) and Eric Peana (aka P. Sugz) will be ready to send the room into dancing/laughing convulsions. Starting in January, CAPYAC has been rolling out a diverse batch of singles toward releasing a new album, tentatively due in August.

“Sanctuary,” released Friday, is the latest, and it’s a collaboration with Los Angeles MC Slim Jeff and soul singer Annabelle Maginnis. CAPYAC has teamed up with Maginnis in 2019 and again last year, but here she trades verses with Slim Jeff on a feel-good track. “In response to the contentious year that was 2020,” the band says, “‘Sanctuary’ celebrates a safe space to heal and dance freely.”

The new single follows the release “Best Friend,” a winking bit of cheesy electro, and “Alright,” a dash of infectious (maybe we shouldn’t use that word) funk-punk with a madcap video. Use it as a warm-up for the next CAPYAC party, whenever that is.
