Young punk quartet the Linda Lindas were well on their way to taking off even before their live performance of “Racist, Sexist Boy” at the Cypress Park Branch of the L.A. Public Library went viral.

Now ranging in age from 16 to 10, the band got together at the 2018 GIRLSCHOOL festival at the behest of Kristin Kontrol of Dum Dum Girls. Since, they have opened for Alice Bag and Bikini Kill and, last December, released their first EP. In May, they signed to Epitaph Records.

Today they released their second single since hooking up with Epitaph — “Oh!” is a lightning-quick punk rocker that “deals with trying to help out someone and having it blow up in your face,” the band says.

They add: “‘Oh!’ is one of the first songs we collaborated on during the pandemic, masked and distanced on the front porch. It started with the main riff and progression Bela brought to the band. Eloise wrote the verses and Lucia and Mila wrote the choruses.”

And Ryan Baxley directed the video, which is a heap of fun. The song appears in the trailer for the forthcoming Netflix series “The Chair,” which stars Sandra Oh.

If you know your punk and riot grrrl history, you recognize the influences. The flame still burns brightly, and a simple exclamation has scarcely been so catchy.
