Check out new singles from Illuminati Hotties and Young Winona, plus a Sophia Knapp & Dungen collaboration …

ILLUMINATI HOTTIES, “u v v p” (feat. Buck Meek)

Following the already-a-staple-of-our-summer “Pool Hopping,” Illuminati Hotties put the tender in “tenderpunk” with the new single “u v v p.” It’s the latest from IH’s album “Let Me Do One More,” arriving in October on her Snack Shack Tracks imprint via Hopeless Records. That’s Buck Meek of Big Thief featured on the song, which is right out of yonder ’70s. “The road toward fulfillment is lonesome and dusty for a rambling ranger like yourself,” Sarah Tudzin says. “For when you need a deputy’s hand, a sling of something sweet, or just a breather in paradise, there’s ‘u v v p.’ I brought along my pal Buck Meek to remind you to say something about how special your beau may be to you, even if you’re too shy to muster up the courage.”

YOUNG WINONA, “Killer Daisies”

New Zealand ex-pats Young Winona (fka Santa Barbara) announced their signing to Poor Man Records early this year when they released the single “LA Waste.” The trio — Cassie and her husband Nick Gaffaney, along with Geoff Maddock — continued their sticky grunge explorations with “Confess” and today followed up with “Killer Daisies,” a wild thing about menacing flora. “I’m walking in a field full of flowers / that are turning into teeth that want to eat me,” Cassie Gaffaney sings. There’s a fun video, too. (See them along with Jagged Baptist Club tonight at El Cid.)

SOPHIA KNAPP & DUNGEN, “Desert Moon”

Singer-songwriter (and psychic/Tarot reader) Sophia Knapp wrote “Desert Moon” in Joshua Tree, but thanks to a hookup from friend and music connoisseur Sam Swig, she found herself recording the song in Stockholm with Swedish psych band Dungen. Gustav Ejstes plays fiddle on the track, which will appear on an EP Knapp has in the works. Also to come: a cover of “Song,” by the Swedish folk artist Turid.
