Arcade Fire have announced the May 6 arrival of their new album, “WE,” introducing their sixth full-length with the video for the medley, “The Lightning I, II.”

The songs have an early-Arcade Fire fervor and looseness that should make fans of their first three records happy.

The band — Régine Chassagne, Win Butler, Richard Reed Parry, Tim Kingsbury, Jeremy Gara and Will Butler (who has announced his departure from the band) — was produced by Nigel Godrich, Win and Chassagne, recording in multiple locales including New Orleans, El Paso and Mount Desert Island, Maine. It’s their first album since 2017’s “Everything Now” (save last year’s score for the film “Her”).

The album is split into two sides — the band describes “I” as channeling the fear and loneliness of isolation, and “WE” as expressing the joy and power of reconnection.

Emily Kai Bock directed the new video.
