FIDLAR is back with their first new song since 2019 … And maybe you expected a ballad?

“FSU” does not stand for Florida State University. It’s an acronym for … well, you’ll catch on quickly enough. It’s somehow comforting to know that neither the COVID-19 pandemic nor life as thirtysomethings has mellowed L.A.’s favorite skate-punks.

The band, now a trio (guitarist Elvis Kuehn has left the building, leaving frontman Zac Carper, bassist Brandon Schwartzel and drummer Max Kuehn), worked with Grammy-winning producer Dave Sardy on a new EP, due to arrive in early 2023.

“New FIDLAR is leaning into the extremes,” the band says. “Loud, louder, loud. Three chords and the truth. Catchy and obnoxious. Lyrics are very thought-mouth. It’s speaking to the FIDIOTS of the world.”

The video for “FSU,” directed by Ryan Baxley, captures the frenzied energy.
