Stream: Cherry Glazerr, ‘Soft Like a Flower’

In the tumultuous years since Cherry Glazerr’s fourth album, “Stuffed & Ready,” came out in 2019, Clementine Creevy detoured into the waters of synth-pop, hinting that there might be artistic shift in the works.

The world is back on its axis.

Today, Cherry Glazerr released the single “Soft Like a Flower,” which defiantly belies its title, and announced that their new album, “I Don’t Want You Anymore,” will be out Sept. 29 via Secretly Canadian.

“The songs on this one are songs I’ve dreamed of making,” Creevy says of the album, made with Yves Rothman (Yves Tumor, Blondshell, Miya Folick, Lo Moon, Girlpool), a collaboration that began with a Metallica cover.

“I’ve spent these years taking a hard look at myself, at my relationships, and writing about it,” she adds. “I guess I’m coming to terms with a lot of my bullshit.”

As for the blistering first single, Creevy calls it an “Evanescence moment,” with bandmate Sami Perez joining on the chorus, repeating “I like you killing me.”

“It’s a real ‘losing your fucking shit’ kind of vibe,” Creevy says. “I wanted this album to be just heart and soul. Completely exposed. It’s also a little bit about loving the anguish and toxicity that comes with being ruined by another person. Letting go and submitting to them but then catching yourself becoming too much like them.”
