Video: LP, ‘The One That You Love’

Cowboy boots on. Gloves off. LP has returned with a new single, “The One That You Love,” a rocker with a Western flair, a gunslinger’s swagger and, of course, vocals you could hear from way down the canyon.

The singer-songwriter reunited with longtime collaborators Mike Del Rio (co-writer and producer) and Nate Campany (co-writer) to make the new tune; it’s the same triumvirate responsible for LP’s breakout hit “Lost on You.”

“I feel like I allowed myself to conjure up all of the genres I love and just let it rip, wild-style, as usual,” she says. “The melody flew out as if already written — all my favorite songs I’ve written have been like this.”

Darren Craig (Rhianna, Kanye West, Shakira) directs the video for the song, which was filmed at Big Sky Ranch in Simi Valley. Now based in L.A., LP (born Laura Pergolizzi) hails from Long Island and New York City, so we’re not sure how comfortable she looks astride a horse, but there’s no question the scenery is beautiful and the song is a gallop. “For the video, we wanted most of all to establish the mood and vibe of the song and what’s to come,” LP says. “I’m rambling toward town, on a horse, and only I know where I’m going, but I want you to come along.”
