SPELLES

SPELLES first came on the scene in 2014 by … well, casting them.

Propelled by the alluringly witchy vocals of Kathryn Baar, they return today with “Machete,” their first new music since SPELLES’ second EP was released in 2018. The duo, Baar and Luc Laurent, worked at the Lair studios in L.A. with engineer Sonny DiPerri and then put the production touches on the song themselves in their home studio.

The song (an acoustic version of which appears in the new episode of the CW series “Nancy Drew”), features thunderous percussion and chanted background vocals, offering a rally cry to “steel yourself” against personal demons such as anxiety and other mental health challenges.

The video for the track was shot in Red Rock Canyon State Park and directed by Zach Bell.
