Josh Ostrander ratchets up his best Dylan on “Meant for Livin’,” his new single as Mondo Cozmo.

As a lockdown-fueled antidote to going stir crazy, it’s a wild ride, its lyrics cascading from one 2020-21 fever dream to the next. Says Ostrander: “This is the first song that I wrote when the pandemic hit, with the lyrics reading as a practical guide for successful living.”

The video is equally crazy, a mix of live action and stop-motion. The songwriter credits Tyson Mason for the idea and Travis Shinn (who worked on Mondo Cozmo’s “Shine” and “Upside Down”) with the execution. Chloe Fleury did the paper art and animation.

The single is the follow-up to last fall’s “Feel Good,” which was the first new music from Mondo Cozmo since his 2020 sophomore album, “New Medicine.” Yes, there’s a new album in the works, planned for later this year.
