“I’m your angel, right?” Allie Crow Buckley sings hopefully on her first single of 2022, “Angel,” conjuring up the excitement of new love yet making it sound oh so precarious. “If it’s not real then I don’t wanna wake up,” a feeling accentuated by the song’s dreamy blend of synth, guitar and arching vocals.

As on her 2021 album “Moonlit and Devious,” Buckley worked with producer and co-writer Jason Boesel (Rilo Kiley, Bright Eyes) on the tune.

The video, directed by Jeanette Getrost, has a fairy-tale quality all its own. “This song is about the tenderness and vulnerability of new love. About getting swept up, or rather, carried away,” Buckley says. “We shot the video at a 15th-century church in the English countryside, and pulled references from things like Zeffirelli’s ‘Romeo and Juliet.’”
